Inaugural Short Course on Helicopter Design for ISE Aerospace Students.
Inaugural Short Course on Helicopter Design for ISE Aerospace Students. Bangkok, 10 August 2025 – Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering (Chula Engineering), in partnership with the Vertical Flight Society (VFS), has successfully wrapped up the Inaugural Short Course on Helicopter and VTOL Design – an intensive programme designed to prepare Aerospace Engineering students for the upcoming VFS Student Design Competition 2025. The five-day course, held from 6–10 August 2025, was led by Dr Arvind Sinha, President of the VFS Australia Chapter. A globally recognised authority in vertical flight technology and aircraft design, Dr Sinha shared invaluable real-world expertise and mentored more than 40 Aerospace Engineering students, equipping them with both technical skills and industry perspective. The closing ceremony on Sunday 10 August was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. In his remarks, the Dean hailed the initiative as “a model for international academic collaboration that bridges theory and application, helping to equip our students for global competition and innovation.” Dr Auraluck Pichitkul, FHEA, Chair of the Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering (International Program) at Suranaree University of Technology and President of the VFS Thailand Chapter, presented certificates to the participants and praised their dedication and creativity throughout the course. Special appreciation was also extended to Wg. Cdr. Research Vision My current research vision focuses on creating immersive environments and extended reality systems that tackle challenges in technology-enhanced education and training as well as healthcare and agriculture. I am especially interested in using holographic visualization and mixed reality frameworks to enhance the way people interact with technology, with the ultimate goal of human augmentation through personalized and interactive information platforms tailored for these sectors. I explore the applications of immersive technologies across these diverse domains, developing solutions for interactive education and training, healthcare information platforms, and precision agriculture systems. This vision is currently partially supported by my HoloGrad research grant from the PMU-C Research Funding Agency, in collaboration with Bumrungrad International Hospital in Bangkok. Contract Number: C05F660157 (01 July 2023 –– 30 June 2025) Please see below… Research Grant 1 July 2023 – 31 December 2025 Research and Development Project Funds (9,968,200.00 THB) PMU-C Research Funding Agency, Principal Investigator (PI) HoloGrad Project in Collaboration with Genomic Medicine Center @ Bumrungrad International Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. I was the founding Principal Investigator (PI) of the HoloGrad project. I played a key role in its inception, driving the conceptualization, research analysis, methodological framework, software and platform development, and system visualization – effectively overseeing and leading all R&D efforts. In 2023, I successfully secured funding for the project through a competitive research grant from PMU-C supplemented by a matching contribution from Bumrungrad International Hospital. The project officially commenced on 01 July 2023. Under my leadership, it progressed through its designated phases, culminating in the publication of three papers. However, upon my appointment at Chulalongkorn University in August 2024, the grant – being institutionally bound – remained with CMKL University. Consequently, on 01 August 2024, Dr. Sally Goldin – my project’s Co-PI – assumed the role of PI for the extension period, overseeing further refinements to HoloGrad and strategic planning for user testing and human trials. Since joining ISE on 01 August 2024, my involvement in the project has been limited to providing complimentary advisory support and consultancy as and when needed. The initial grant supported my research vision and enabled the comprehensive design and development of the HoloGrad platform which now – as a result of Dr. Goldin’s leadership and contributions – stands poised for deployment at Bumrungrad International Hospital, pending the successful completion of user testing and patient trials, along with requisite approvals from hospital executives and management.
