Brief information about SMU PhD programs:
The SMU PhD programs are open to candidates with at least a Bachelor’s degree. A Master’s degree is useful though not required.
SMU provides fully-funded scholarships which cover registration and subsidised tuition fees. The scholarships also provide monthly living stipends [SGD2,000 (about THB46,000) before the Qualifying Exam and SGD2,500 (about THB 58,000) after the Qualifying Exam]. The scholarships are renewed yearly for a maximum duration of 4 years. For outstanding students in Computer Science or Information Systems, we provide a higher stipend rate (SGD3,750 – about THB 86,000). We also provide generous conference funding for our PhD students to share their research with the international community (up to SGD3,500 or THB81,000).
SMU PhD students typically take 4-5 years to complete, In their 5th year, while trying to complete their dissertation, students could either take up Teaching Assistantship (TA) or Research Assistantship (RA) positions. RA work could be undertaken at the school level or even at our research centres, institutes and laboratories.
